Laser hair removal is a non-surgical procedure, performed in a physician's office or spa, to achieve long-term reduction of unwanted facial hair. When doctors laser facial hair, they use beams of concentrated light to penetrate into the hair follicle and destroy the hair within that follicle.

In general, laser facial hair removal works best in those with dark hair on lighter skin, however, newer technologies have made the procedure safe and effective in those with darker skin as well. Blonde, red, or gray hairs are generally less responsive to laser hair removal treatment. Coarse hair (terminal hair) responds much better to laser hair removal treatment than fine hair or "peach fuzz" (vellus hair).

Most people require a series of 4-6 laser hair removal treatments over time to gradually remove unwanted facial hair. Some people may experience some re-growth, even after multiple treatments. Touch-ups may be needed. The cost to laser facial hair can be up to $350 or more per treatment, depending on the professional performing the treatment and the size of the area being treated.
